NARIX LOTTERY ANNOUNCEMENT

(Please note - we’re including a TL;DR at the bottom of this long post for accessibility, in English and in French.)

As applications come in for our next NARIX in Philly, we’ve been blown away with the responses that we’ve received so far. And with one week left to submit, we’ve already received more applications than we have capacity for the event. Which means, we’re officially announcing that we’ll be going to a lottery to select attendees.

NARIX is special– it’s absolutely important to so many people, and that’s reflected in the thoughtful and passionate applications you’ve all sent in. We know that going to a lottery is going to lead to some broken hearts. Our commitments to you are:

  • Full transparency and elimination of bias in the selection process.

  • Prompt announcements as soon as each step is completed.

  • Continued effort to get to 2 events a year (we likely will be able to do this, this year!).

The lottery process is meant to be an improvement on previous NARIX selection processes, and while we understand that the process may be nerve-wracking, our goal is to ensure that it goes smoothly and quickly to give everyone resolution on their attendee status as promptly as possible.

How this is going to work:

  • Applications will continue to be open through January 31st, for interested parties to apply. Applications will close at 12:00AM PST February 1st. (If you haven’t applied yet, this is your reminder! Here’s the English Application Link / French Application Link )

  • The steering committee will review applications in the week that follows– this has already started, and some of you may have already received follow-up emails asking for additional information. We will need a few days to review any applications that come in right at the end of the deadline.

  • Once all applications have been reviewed, all qualified applicants will be randomly assigned a number which indicates their spot on the list. We’ll send out acceptance letters to every number within our attendee cap, and then use the subsequent numbers to determine waitlist order.

  • For folks hoping to attend as a tying pair: if you are accepted, but your partner is not in the first round, you can choose to join them on the waitlist. If spots open up, we’ll admit you both at the same time.

When acceptance letters go out, you can expect to receive a handful of documents:

  1. A copy of our code of conduct and event policies, which you will need to review and sign.

  2. A copy of our event liability waiver, which you will need to review and sign.

  3. A survey to collect your food preferences for the event, which you will need to submit.

  4. A volunteer survey, to indicate your preferences for volunteering during the event.

  5. A link to pay for your ticket, which you will need to do to guarantee your spot.

For scholarship applicants, we expect to be able to let you know about your scholarship status at the time of your acceptance.

Some important things to note:

  • We are currently reviewing submitted applications. Some applications have received follow-up questions; please if this is you, respond promptly so that we can resolve your application to include you in the lottery.

  • For folks that do not get tickets to Philly NARIX, your applications will receive priority for the next event. That event is already in the early stages of being planned!

  • We have a small handful of volunteers who have been very involved in the event planning, and will continue to be integral to producing our May Philly event. These volunteers have guaranteed spots, pending their application review.

We are so excited for this event, and whether it’s in Philly this spring, or somewhere else (in the fall? 😉), we’re looking forward to the opportunity to share space together soon.

Warm regards,

NARIX Steering Committee

(TL’DR: We received a lot of applications and are going to a lottery for attendee selection. If you received follow-up questions from us via email, please respond soon! Acceptance letters will go out 2/15. If you are not selected, stay tuned for our next NARIX where you will have priority.)
